The more things change...

Marc Herold, a professor of Economics at the University of New Hampshire, has found that the price of a modern-day sex slave (based on 2005 data obtained from Israel) is about the same as that of an African slave in Salvador, Bahia, in 1873. Converting 2006 US dollar values, a young female slave would have cost $6,703-$8,705 back then. The price in 2005 for women trafficked in Israel was $8,000 to $10,000.
