Shenani-Sunday, Behind the Fashion Seams

Shenani-Sunday

It is kind of rainy here in Sacramento, and I have been loving this Spring/Summer rainy weather. There is something about unpredictable weather that makes me feel like a kid again, ready for what the weather is going to surprise me with next. And I cant help but reflect with the changing weather, and the changing season about how much I have changed this winter season. A while back I was just generally in a bad place within myself. I was upset about a lot of things that I really didn't know how to make peace with. With this change of season I have refocused my every day thoughts, it is still hard work but is getting easier by the day. I pay attention to the negative thoughts and judgements and ask myself how they are serving me? Usually...they aren't serving me very well. And so, I let them go, in peace. Mostly the tough negative thoughts that come up are the judgements I have for myself (we all have them, ladies especially I think). I cant help but notice in the 21st century, that we have bought into the thought process that if you love yourself it is somehow incorrect, or you will just be waiting for someone to come along and prove you wrong. (At least this is the consensus between my closest friends and I). And so, I have made a change. I practice every day...letting go of judgement and letting it go in peace. They NEVER serve me well, so why keep them around? I have noticed that I only judge others when I am judging myself 10X more harshly. And when I cant help but judge myself, I make sure I don't judge others and somehow the judgement I have for myself doesn't come around so much, and if it does, it is much less intense. I am in more control of it, rather than it being in control of me!
And so, if you have noticed, I will not make negative posts about someone or their fashion choices. "Why?" you ask? Because deep down I know that I am just doing my best every day. And I'm sure you are too!
And with that in mind, I will leave you with a quote filled with wisdom: "We are all bozos on the same bus, so we might as well sit back and enjoy the ride." -Wavy Gravy (Clown/Activist)
Happy Sunday, I hope you get to include a little Shenanigan like behavior in your repertoire! And allow your judgements to fade away in peace...

Love the white hair look!

I absolutely love this picture. I love the wig, I love the makeup and the outfit is a seemingly wonderful nod to vintage 1940's/1950's fashion. One more fun picture for your Fun Sunday : )

Gucci my heart...

I have to say that there is something about the clean lines of a suit that make me feel powerful. (See bottom right picture I am referring to). Strong lines and powerful colors can create an ensemble that, when accessorized appropriately, can make you feel like you can take on the world! (Which I would never try for I would most likely end up like Pinky and the Brain). Clothing definitely creates a feeling for me, call me overly sensitive or what you will, but its whats true for me : ) And I like to use these powers for good! I know that when I am feeling down, I have to figure out what kind of feeling I can create that will lift my mood, or bring me the strength that I need to make it through my moment, or my day.
There is something about this suit from Gucci that is simply memorizing to me. I know, it probably looks like any other women's suit that you have seen, same lines, same colors...blah. blah. blah. But I think it is the pop or color with the hat and the flower broach that bring a spark to this look. Along with the VERY tailored accessories. I can help but LOVE the combination of the shinny leather gloves and the tailored clutch!
Suits such as this one are so completely transitional that you can dress them up and keep the lines clean, or change the look entirely! If you add a colorful blouse that is lose, unbutton the jacket, loose the belt and all the other accessories and let the hair fly around a little unkempt...VOI--LAH! You have an instantly more relaxed feeling to this suit.
Another thing that you could do with this suit is wear just a plain t-shirt underneath to simplify it. Or you could wrap a scarf around your neckline and torso like a wrapped dress top under the jacket. With a plain scarf, this would most likely make for a very German military type of feel that can be very chic. A flowered scarf would look great with curly hair and some looped earrings.
I think you get my jest in my long winded explanation about why I love suits like this:

I also cant help but love the hemlines that pay tribute to the 1940's pin up look (see military trench in top middle picture). I think it can be a very gentle nod to a feminine silhouette when the hemline of a jacket, skirt or dress comes down a little further from the knee than usual. It can also make for a very elongating effect. Its my favorite hemline on my physique anyway : )

Happy Shenani-Easter!

Fashion with Animals...

I have always LOVED animals, and as a child sometimes I even preferred the company of animals over people. Well here are my two favorites together....Animals in Fashion Photography. I find that the photo shoots that incorporate animals have such a different feel to them. There is more something... more soul, more essence, or maybe they have just a bit more going on that is visually interesting. Either way, I love it!
