This is How You Do It

Hey! We have 14 followers.. :D
Anyways, I'm asked by a few about tips in writing. I can't answer because I'm not an expert. I'm always speechless when people ask me about that. So since I'm quite a sucker in giving tips, I'll share some thoughts and borrowed thoughts from research.

First of all, I would like to say that writing is merely not a talent. Everyone can write. Anyone can be a writer. But few can finish a manuscript. True eh? It would be a great achievement for oneself to ever finish just one manuscript--published or unpublished.
One thing that could make a person a good writer is to have this thing called IMAGINATION. But imagination isn't enough. A person must have perseverance. Practice men, practice! It doesn't mean that once you've written a romance novel you've perfect it. It will still have flaws and mistakes. So try again and again and again.

So here. First stop, your characters. If you're writing a normal romance novel (no fantasy) your characters must first be believable. Some interesting qualities, maybe, or flaws might work too. And don't make one of the character too perfect and the other too clumsy. That would make the story one-sided. Make sure to make them look more normal where most of the readers could relate. You could write a story which is "napapanahon". In that way, most of the readers could relate. Also, don't forget to describe their personalities, weaknesses and strengths and be able to carry those until the end of the story.

Next, how your characters would meet. Your characters must know each other in a unique but very cute way so it'll catch the readers' attention. I don't know if this fits to everybody but when I buy some romance novels, beside the teaser, I read the first chapter. So you should maybe put some attention and make the beginning very catchy and would make the readers want to know the rest of the story. Also, the meet-up of the characters would describe the main theme or concept of the said story.

Then there's the conflict. For me, this part is the hardest. This is where the loopholes normally appears. So for beginners, like me, I think we should do light conflicts but it should fit the story. If you're planning to write a more heavy and dramatic conflict, make it believable and clear. And the conflict must also fit the story. You could do research for accurate results.

Another thing that is quite hard to maintain in a novel is the shifting of scenes or the pace. Avoid writing or showing a lot of description or histories that would make the readers loose their interest. And learn to shift scenes a bit faster so the story won't be boring.

And here is the most desired part of a romance novel. THE ENDING. This is the happily-ever-after part which the reader desires to know. This is also the essence or the heart of the story. And it is very important. Give the readers the accurate and the exact ending that they want and desire. And this, this, is the reason why people would be hooked to your characters.

And the last tip, Be yourself :) Never forget to express the uniqueness of yourself in your novel. That is the trademark where your readers would search over and over again.

To be able to achieve these things, see yourself as a reader. Read the manuscript over and over again. If you get hooked and "kilig" with the scenes everytime you read it, there you've got it, a romance novel. :D
